RF Engineer

Job Description

ATA is seeking an experienced RF Engineer in support to the Air Force Research Laboratory Space Vehicles Advanced Technology (SVAT) contract. The engineer will be an integral member of a joint Government and contractor team that operates in a very dynamic environment. The engineer’s duties will span research and development in formulating concepts, system design, building mockups/prototypes, testing feasibility, designing and conducting experiments, modeling and simulation, preparation for flight experiments and execution of flight experiments. In addition, the engineer may be required to assist on other Space Vehicles Advanced Technology (SVAT) contract-related tasks as needed.

Essential Functions: 

  • - Systems Engineering analysis of requirements

  • - RF Antenna System Design

  • - Minimum Develop specific metrics for system test, and guidance on laboratory methods to
       test individual system components

  • - Leadership of overall technical effort as it pertains to a final operational system and a

  • - Support Business Development activities, for example:

  • -- Support and/or lead customer interactions

  • -- Identify new opportunities with existing and/or new customers

  • -- Support the capture of new opportunities

  • -- Support proposals (e.g. lead sections involving technical area of responsibility, provide
       cost estimates, etc.)

  • - Represent ATA well with customers

  • - Perform all other duties as assigned

  • - Bachelor’s degree plus ~5-years of experience or Master’s degree in Relevant Engineering or
      Physics from an accredited university

  • - Experience in research and development in satellite RF systems and subsystems

  • - RF signal processing

  • - Experience with design, development, testing, and verification of hardware, and software RF

  • - Experience in research and development to advance Technology Readiness Levels (TRL), and
      demonstrated ability to document the progress of research

  • - Proven leadership experience

  • - U.S. person able to obtain and maintain a United States DoD clearance


  • - Ph.D. in Engineering or Physics

  • - Active Department of Defense Security Clearance

  • - RF component or antenna design for multiple communication or SAR-based approaches

  • - Communication link budget development

  • - Ability to develop system link budgets

  • - MATLAB, HFSS, COMSOL, and LabView experience

  • - Experience with ELINT, SIGINT, and COMINT

  • - Communication Forward Error Correction techniques

  • - Experience in business development and creating new program opportunities with new and
      existing customers

  • - Current U.S. DoD Security Clearance

Primary Location:Kirtland Air Force Base, Albuquerque, NM

Travel: Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be required.
